This is just a short little song I wrote recently. It’s meant to be a Christian fellowship kind of song.
This song also marks the first time I’m dabbling in multi-track recording, using the freely-available Audacity software that Ivan recommended, which explains the added percussion (egg shaker) and harmonies. I’m still really new to all this recording stuff, which explains the slight lack of synchronisation at certain parts.
Basically there were 3 separate tracks: 1. guitar & main vocals, 2. the egg shaker, and 3. harmonies in the second verse. For track 1, I used my Olympus WS-300M digital voice recorder to record it, and then imported it into the Audacity project. However, for tracks 2 & 3, I plugged in a very simple mic into my computer and recorded it through Audacity.
Audacity allows you to combine multiple tracks together into one master track, hence I simply recorded each track separately and merged them all together in the end.
Since this is my very first time playing around with such a thing, I’m pretty pleased with the effect, haha!
Congrats, Jeremy! You’re on your way to being your own recording artist. You’ve managed to figure out how to edit the tracks together. If you’re serious about recording and editing more stuff, you should consider getting a Macbook Pro. BTW, I wish Apple was paying me to say this, but they aren’t. Still, I’ll say it anyway…
One huge difference is that GarageBand will automatically align the built-in sound loops like percussions and drums to the beat. In Audacity, you’d have discovered that you have to manually align all the tracks, and it’s hard to get it perfect. It’s way easier in Garageband (if you’ve watched the online tutorials I posted in an earlier reply).
Re: the song, it has a Beatles feel to it!
I can’t say I take to Christian songs (but hey, I don’t take to religious songs in general, so nothing personal, heh heh). I listened for the melody and chord progression. It’s very listen-able. I’m beginning to spot a pattern to your song writing style — very folks and Evergreen. There’s definitely a trace of Rock & Roll!
