We (i.e. Betty, Hui Leng and myself) recently tried out our very first proper recording session at Kah Loong’s place on National Day.
It was a pretty new & exciting experience for all of us, and we were very thankful to Kah Loong for kindly letting us visit his place and being ever-so-patient with all of us while we tried to give our best takes.
Personally, I felt it was a very enriching experience to learn about the recording process, and see how the much talked-about GarageBand software actually works.
Kah Loong was a very patient & forgiving producer (although he humbly referred to himself as a mere “operator”), and allowed all of us to do multiple takes till we managed to nail the best one (although I did almost all my recordings in just one take, haha!).
We recorded a total of 4 of our original songs which we had presented in the past few Songcraft sessions, namely:
(Click on the links to listen to the songs.)
1) By The Window by Hui Leng & Betty
2) Praise Him by Hui Leng & Betty
3) But Not Before We Say Goodnight by Jeremy & Betty
4) For He Is Wonderful by Jeremy
You can listen to songs 1 to 3 at Betty’s blog.
Overall, we were all extremely pleased with the quality of the recordings. I was thrilled at how the mic was able to capture all our voices so cleanly & clearly.
I was extremely satisfied with the recording of “But Not Before We Say Goodnight”, which is a duet recorded by Betty & myself. I had always hoped to do a proper recording of the song, and the finished product recorded at Kah Loong’s place last Thursday was exactly the way I had hoped for it to turn out.
I was also very impressed with how “By The Window” turned out. I thought it was the best-produced song of the lot, because there were multiple instrument layers being recorded, and they all meshed perfectly. It was quite a gem.
The recording of “Praise Him” seemed to manage to capture the inherent sense of joy, sprightliness, and delight which the song possessed.
Once again, my heartfelt thanks to Kah Loong for his patience & generosity!
Nice!
The quality of the recording is quite good.
I hope you take this as a compliment - “By the Window” reminds me of Walt Disney cartoons…can imagine scenes passing through as a protagonist ponders.
Yeah Lingfeng, I could definitely see the Disney resemblence, haha!
The song’s got a nice wistful, wholesome, innocent, Disney-like quality about it. I’m sure Hui Leng & Betty would be pleased to hear about the Disney-comparison!
Great! You folks put action into words. And most important of all, you are still friends after the recording session. No nasty cat fights? LOL.
