You can listen to the song (here). The full lyrics can be found (here).
(Ok, I admit…I added in the exclamation mark in the song title just for effect.)
…
First things first: I think the song’s got a great title! That’s what I call originality. Don’t you think it’s a great title?
Anyway, this is Jerron’s latest song posted up on his blog. It isn’t a new song. It’s actually a song he wrote last year.
From Jerron’s blog post: “This song is about my church group actually. I wrote this song last year to describe the situation in my previous cell group. We had only one girl in our midst so I didn’t think it was homogenous at all. With more girls, it would have been more fun in the group.”
And I initially thought the song was written as a lament for the heavy imbalance of males to females in our Songcraft songwriting circle (oops!).
I really like this song. It’s got a very attractive melody, and the lyrics are refreshing too. Who would’ve thought the term “Chee Ko Pek” would be used in the opening line of a song?!? Kudos to Jerron for such out-of-the-box thinking!
It just cracks me up every time I hear the extremely lyrical opening melodic line being sung with the use of the very Singlish term “Chee Ko Pek”. The irony is just too funny! I get fits of laughter every time I hear it, haha! (I think Jerron sings the words “Chee Ko Pek” very musically.)
The e-piano accompaniment to this song is wonderful as well. I like it.
All in all, great stuff and a very impressive effort.
Keep up the great work Jerron! (And I hope you finally get more girls.)
…
Epilogue: Upon further thought, I find the lyrics rather meaningful.
It’s in some ways a tribute to the goodness, the gentleness, and the kindness of the female gender. It’s about how we can’t do everything without both the males and the females working together, because each of us has our own strengths & abilities.
And the lyrics are all packaged very nicely into a beautiful song.
Let’s face it, Jeremy. You identified with the song, didn’t you? You didn’t fool me one bit. LOL. Kidding lah.
hehe.. i cant help but comment that girls can’t be said to be as gentle, kind, etc. as compared to the guys.. cannot generalise and ’stereotype’!
sorry sorry i’ve been studying to much sociology stuffs, heh.. =p
cool song btw! love the local words used in the song. maybe i shd try writing songs that incorporate more local meanings/words for the next session, haha..
Kah Loong, you played the keyboard well ;)
The idea of the song is indeed very original and extraordinary. However, I was wondering if Chinese lyrics will fit better to the melody, ‘cos the tune sounds more like a Chinese song than an English song…haha, just my personal opinion.
Thanks HL for the compliment.
Not too sure about the song with Chinese lyrics. Thought it sounds apt with English lyrics. But then again, that’s my opinion only :)
