I recently chanced upon this lovely piano piece which Jerron composed.
According to the composer, this song is “about a guy having the bitter feeling after somehow being rejected by a girl he likes.”
Anyway, the slightly rougher (but no less beautiful) cut can be heard at his podcast weblog (here). (Check out the applause at the end. Cool! Must have been an adoring female fan who sat by him as he played on the piano.)
The more polished and arranged version can be heard from the clip which Jerron uploaded onto the SongsIWrite.com website (here). This particular version was arranged and produced with the help of Fred Lin, and features a string layering as well. This is the same version that can be found on Jerron’s online album here (see track 6).
What do I think of this piece “Bitter”?
I think it’s very beautiful. It’s a very touching piece, and it’s everything I imagine a sentimental piano piece to be. It’s the kind of piano piece I wish I could compose. (I once said the same thing about HL’s piano pieces too.)
I have absolutely no doubt that this piece by Jerron will melt the hearts of most ladies who hear it. (Jerron, this is your secret weapon!)
Lastly, I would like to say that I personally don’t seem to see the “bitterness” in this piece, to be honest. To me, the impressions I get out of hearing this piece would be a sense of wistfulness, of longing, and maybe a tinge of regret. Not so much of being “bitter”. But to each his own, I guess.
Fantastic piece, Jerron!
Wow. That piece is so different from what Kah Loong (aka Jerron) has performed so far. I like this alot. It has… feelings.
Yup Ivan, I agree. It’s quite a departure from Kah Loong’s usual style of songs. But delightful surprise indeed!
Hey guys, you mean my other songs are boring and lack ‘feelings’???
Anyway the song ‘bitter’ refers to an inward feeling (a sense of loss, wistfulness or longing). It’s not a retributive thinking or hateful feeling.
For the record, this is the second instrumental song I have written. To date, I have only written 3 instrumentals.
The third instrumental of course is ‘The Bright Morning Star’

It is also a song that gives a sense of wistfulness which is quite obvious at the end (during the sudden change of chords).
But still I don’t think ‘Bitter’ is any different from my other songs as they are all love songs.
