Here are two of my favourite songs from last Saturday’s Songcraft mini-concert.
Marcel has done it again. Yet another unbelievably catchy and well-crafted pop-rock song with great lyrics.
Marcel is really good at writing such high-quality songs suited a for pop-rock band setting, and his songwriting maturity really shines through in all his songs. (I’m not showering all this praise simply because we’re in the same band together, haha!)
“Roadtrip” is one of Marcel’s more recent compositions, and when I heard it for the first time, I immediately took a liking to it. It’s hard not to like such an uplifting song as this one.
Performing “Roadtrip” with Marcel last Saturday was one of my most enjoyable experiences during the mini-concert.
I really like the way Marcel uses all those interesting chords to structure his song. For example, the use of Eb and G chord in the verses (the key is in F major). And the use of G chord to kick off the bridge is really a masterstroke! Such an incredible effect. Marcel is really good with chord usage, something which I woud really like to learn from.
I’m looking forward to our band doing some serious recordings of Marcel’s original songs in the near future.
I love this song.
“We Are” has always been my favourite song of Chris’s.
It is such a great song. I love the intriguing melody, and the ever-so-subtle lyrics which hint at something deeper, and yet isn’t in-your-face like other lyrics. Very sophisticated lyric-writing indeed. Even my friend Shir who was present that night felt that she really liked the way the lyrics for this song was written.
This is a fantastic song, definitely as good if not better than some of the rock songs out there on radio.
I am thoroughly impressed. Well done, Chris!

Ok, this is a bit self-indulgent here, but here are two of the songs which I wrote and presented during the mini-concert.
Both were sung expertly and flawlessly by Betty. There is nothing more satisfying to a composer than having a singer sing your composition exactly the way you had intended for it to turn out. It’s really a dream come true.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to learn and perform my songs, Betty.
[...] As I’ve always maintained, “We Are” is my favourite song of Chris’s. This is the same song he performed at last year’s Songcraft mini-concert. [...]
