I enjoyed last Friday night’s session (as always).
The turnout at 730pm wasn’t very encouraging, but as time went on, more and more people started to trickle in.
We had a number of regulars who couldn’t join us, but then again I was pleasantly surprised to see that we had a few new friends too. I dare say everyone had an enjoyable time of music sharing.
It was nice to see our new friends join us. Though they were understandably apprehensive at first (“Are you guys all, like, professional musicians/songwriters???”), but once they found out that we were all amateur songwriters with rather ordinary musical skills, they began to feel more at ease.
The songs that were shared were, once again, inspiring. Who says amateur original songs are not up-to-par?
The creativity, originality and passion for music displayed last Friday night was clearly evident to me.
We had piano instrumentals, “movie soundtrack”-like pieces, Chinese songs, rock songs, “Broadway”-style pieces, pop songs, songs in draft mode…the works.
Once again I firmly believe that the Songcraft sessions provide an excellent platform for amateur songwriters in Singapore like myself to share some of our originals with one another in a supportive environment…an environment of like-minded songwriters who speak the same language, i.e. the language of “song”.
There is no pressure to perform to a paying audience. There is no pressure to please or impress anyone.
You just present your own song, and everyone listens. (Of course, we’re always extremely kind and positive with our comments. To first-timers, that is.)
…
For our next session in April, we shall be commemorating the 1st year anniversary of the Songcraft Songwriting Circle.
I get excited just thinking about it.
Stay tuned for updates!
will certainly be there in April. Missed the last session because i had to attend a lecture but i kept wriggling in my seat because i was thinking about songcraft.
Wow! Good to know you missed us so much, haha!
Anyway, we look forward to seeing you again soon. Take care Carrie!
