An unlikely collaboration which produced delightful results:
Jerron and Firdaus recently collaborated on a song entitled “The Girl Who Stole My Soul”.
Click on this link to listen to the song on Jerron’s blog.
Jerron wrote the music, and Firdaus wrote the lyrics. According to Jerron, Firdaus came up with the lyrics in less than half a day!
This song is actually part of an “exercise” which we Songcrafters started amongst ourselves to write songs based on the C-F-G-C-Am-F-G-C chord progression.
My first thought is that the title is a good one. (A bit dramatic, but still a good title nonetheless!) I think it’s unique and it immediately caught my attention. I personally think that songs should strive to have interesting titles such as this one, rather than common or cliched titles.
Next, I think this song is quite touching. I felt quite moved by it, because of both the melody and the lyrics. (Maybe the “sat by the river” imagery did the trick? I dunno, but something certainly did!) I kinda like the way the verse was written.
The melody and arrangement certainly bears some of Jerron’s trademark characteristics!
More of my thoughts on this song can be read from my comments on Jerron’s blog post here.
I think this collaboration has produced very creative results, and I look forward to seeing more collaborations in the near future!
