It’s always interesting to hear songwriters talk about their songwriting process.
The clip above shows well-known singer Marie Digby talking about how she approaches the art of songwriting.
And that’s something that we usually do at our Songcraft sessions too – we share our individual approaches to songwriting, and we learn about the various ways in which a song can be crafted, and in the process we help one another improve as songwriters.
Insights about the songwriting process is always interesting. Come to think of it, maybe Songcraft should video some of the participants’ sharing during the session. And post in YouTube (with their permission).
I do like this. I find it mostly fascinating that her official website shows many videos similar to this one. It’s her Label’s marketing strategy to build fans by using intimate videos about her songwriting, and spontaneous-style, unplugged performances on video. Very effective.

I think I’m in love :) If it is her label’s marketing strategy to build fans it’s definitly working…
Very wondeful song Marie!
Where are the new blogs! New Songs! New composition?
Any new compositions coming?
Thank you Marie, you made me cry. I do hope to hear more from you. All the best for you. … and I really hope your grandma is still going strong.
Hey Marie, I have just watched your youtube video on your process of songwriting. As an avid songwriter myself, inspiration normally comes from large events or emotional impact of daily situations. I played music for a number of years and then stopped performing. My mother, my biggest fan, was saddened by this. I found out 5 years ago she had lung cancer, and she fought hard for 9 months before she lost the battle.
I started a new project called my Favourite tragedy. Her loss. Tragedies push us, drive us in new directions, give us a cause and new unshakable ground. I have not stopped, and never will again in my quest to songwrite, perform, live eat breathe music.
Thank you for posting your video as further inspiration for more songwriters out there.
if ya get a chance, come check out my latest challenge to write and record a song every seven days. I am on week 6 and post a new one every week.
Keep doing what you do.
